great bow yard south west eco homes

bridport,
dorset

North Allington Road is at the west end of Bridport only a few minutes drive from the coast at West Bay with its fabled fresh fish landings and bracing cliff top walks. Five, three bedroom, terraced houses with car spaces will be built by Ecos Homes, conveniently located between a doctor’s surgery and an attractive church only a few yards off the main shopping area of Bridport. The town itself has established a well-deserved reputation for a wide variety of social organisations and its attractive range of independent shops.

Importantly, the terraced three-bed homes will achieve a five star rating under the recent BRE [Building Research Establishment] Code for Sustainable Homes standard, ensuring there is no net carbon emitted from domestic hot water and heating systems, fans, pumps or lighting.

In order to meet Code Five criteria the homes will have: -

- exceptionally high levels of insulation (i.e. Warmcell)
- passive solar design to make maximum use of the sun's energy
- solar panels to provide hot water
- solar p.v. panels to provide an offset to electrical costs
- heat exchangers to deliver heat to the essential living areas
- natural paints and plasters (clay) to give a healthy internal environment
- wood pellet fired boilers (which should rarely be required)
- sedum/natural green roofs on the detached houses

The Code for Sustainable Homes was launched in April ’07 and is the new single standard for designing and building new homes in a more sustainable way.  The Code for Sustainable Homes is a set of design principles covering performance in nine key areas – energy and CO2, surface water run-off, health and well-being, water, waste, management, materials, pollution and ecology.
