Five pioneering eco-homes, which will be some of the best low carbon homes in the country, are being built in the delightful village of Stawell. Three terraced three-bed homes and two four-bed detached will complement the conservation area and enhance the quality of life for residents, whilst having minimal impact on the environment.Stawell is situated in the lea of the Polden Hills, above the Somerset Levels near several designated havens for wildlife. The site was originally used as an apple store. The new homes will blend both traditional and contemporary design to offer homes that utilise sustainable technologies such as solar panels and wood pellet stoves. This will help to ensure a healthy internal environment with low heating and electricity bills. Specially landscaped gardens will support wildlife and provide residents with space to grow their own produce. The range of properties will offer generous living accommodation with a number benefiting from space for a home office. The terraced properties incorporate internal sunspaces and natural light is an important part of the design of all the homes. The internal courtyard allows for parking and car ports, with all residents enjoying a shared electric pool car. Shared facilities will be managed by a residents association. Stawell has a village hall and church and one of the top primary schools is in the nearby village of Catcott. There is also a secondary school, Crispin School at Street (7 miles away), which has received several recent ‘excellent’ Ofsted inspections. There are good transport links at Bridgwater (5 miles away), junction 23 of the M5, a mainline train link, with hourly services to Bristol and London and a regular bus service. The houses are being built by Pippin Properties Limited, a joint venture between the landowners Charles and Rowena Graham and Ecos Homes Limited. As concerned environmentalists, the Grahams wanted to ensure the homes were built to the highest sustainable standards. So they chose Ecos Homes to manage and build the project. Ecos Homes, won the 2006 Daily Telegraph/What Homes Gold Award, for best sustainable development in the country. All the properties will be sold with Zurich guarantees. These properties are now available to reserve off plan.
