Eco-homeowners are investing in their future. Long-term benefits are recognised, and include reduced running costs, improved resale value, a healthier living environment, and the satisfaction that comes with leaving a smaller footprint on the earth. What is more, it is widely acknowledged that in the future, government taxes and regulations will make many of the eco-features from our houses mandatory in all new houses. The building industry is moving toward more sustainable construction, driven by tighter building regulations, rising energy costs and increased consumer awareness of environmental issues. Designers and developers will increasingly need to consider sustainability in the design of new housing. With three-quarters of the Great Bow Yard development selling off plan, it proves that there is a strong market for well-designed, green housing. Our next two projects - in Bridport and Stawell - will combine traditional design with a range of future-proofing features. Great Bow Yard can be seen as a model for sustainable construction, showing that it is economically viable and makes commercial sense. We estimate the potential annual savings on running costs for residents of the eco-homes at Great Bow Yard could be in excess of £500* per year. *This figure is our current best estimate. |
